An interesting talk by Sabine Hossenfelder that visualizes gauge symmetry with an effective metaphor, associated with the existence of electrons and electromagnetic radiation.
A new video by Sabine Hossenfelder on simultaneity, well explained. Simultaneity is an aspect of our time that should be taken into greater consideration in all our theoretical developments in any field of knowledge. Instead, it is largely ignored.
An interesting speech by Sabine Hossenfelder: “A few words on some well-known and perhaps lesser-known problems in scientific research and what others have said about them.”
In essence: “Scientific research has big problems, and it’s getting worse”.
A nice speech by Sabine Hossenfelder on the search for the meaning of a scientific theory or the universe.
She promotes her online courses too… so we get at least one answer about the point of the video 🙂
She quotes from a book of Steven Weinberg: “The more the universe seems comprehensible, the more it also seems pointless.”, and in the video she speculates about what he might have meant.
“Is the universe pointless?”
The full title clarifies the abstract of this excellent book by Sabine Hossenfelder: “Lost in Math: How Beauty Leads Physics Astray.”
As always, she highlights the enormous problems in the foundations of physics. These are caused, among other things, by aesthetic priorities in building physical models, rather than engaging with observations of Nature.
